Staff Attorney & Director of Protection
Steve Greenberg has a profound connection with Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It was there as a Boy Scout, and later Eagle Scout, that he discovered his lifelong passion for backpacking, hiking, and camping. It was there in its foothills that he received his law degree from the University of Virginia. And it was there that he took his first job as a young lawyer with the non-profit Virginia Citizens for Better Reclamation, dedicated to improving strip mining practices in the Appalachian region of Virginia. His first case for VCBR, defending an action challenging the constitutional basis for the federal Strip Mining Act, eventually led to a 9-0 victory in the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, after a long and distinguished career in private practice, he is returning to the environmental world as GALT’s Director of Protection. Steve and his wife Lisa own a home near our main Piedmont office, and he is looking forward to spending more time doing the work he loves in the setting he loves. He views his position with GALT as bringing his career full circle, making a meaningful contribution to the causes he’s always cared about.
